Review: From the Resurrection to His Return

This book doesn’t have much going for it. It’s short, and takes some 20 minutes to read. There’s hardly an original thought in this book. It’s simply regurgitating ideas that have been around for at least two thousand years.

In other words, it’s exactly what we need.

Why? Because From The Resurrection to His Return: Living Faithfully in the Last Days

takes ideas from Scripture (2 Timothy 3:1-4:8) and clearly explains what it means to live in what the Bible calls the last days, the period between Christ’s resurrection and his return. It then explains how to live in these last days based on the text:

• Hold the right mentors in high regard
• Hold few illusions about the world
• Hold on to the Bible
• Hold out the Bible to others

Those who know D.A. Carson will understand that he’s more than capable at exegeting the text. Carson clearly communicates and applies the text to today, helping us see the truth and how it should change how we live.

This book would be useful for personal or group study, and it’s also useful as an example of how to clearly communicate the message of the Biblical text.

I sometimes wonder why we don’t have more popular-level books rooted in Scripture. This book is a good example of what could be. My library is full of books spouting new ideas. It was refreshing to read a book that revisits old ideas, ones that are worth the attention.
