An Old Church Blesses a New One
A former student of mine went to pastor an older church. That church celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. As part of their celebration, they raised money to give to a new church.
They approached a church in Guelph, but that new church is already self-supporting. They suggested the offering go to the church I’m planting.
The enclosed letter said:
We are a small country church that has witnessed the test of time and are this year celebrating our 150th anniversary. As with many church functions fellowship and food go together to create a caring community. The anniversary committee raised $471.00 at a pancake breakfast and wanted it to be sent to help another young church develop.
We are happy to see that you are developing a community of Christian fellowship in a core city area.
Our church board heard of the work you are doing and voted to increase the donation to $1,000.00.
Different denominations. Different ages. Different communities. And yet our church is being blessed by them, and I hope they’ll experience the blessing of giving too.
I love when older churches and younger ones partner together to plant churches. As we get older, I hope we can become an older one that blesses new ones too.
