Books I’m Reading

I could quit buying books for the year. I have a whole list of books I’m hoping to start soon, but there are the ones I’m reading right now.

The Crucifixion by Fleming Rutledge — Rutledge began writing this book 18 years ago. It’s received great reviews from people I respect. It’s beautifully written, theologically rich, and long. I plan on reading this book slowly.

The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection by Arthur Conan Doyle — I’ve started reading fiction before I go to bed every night, and I’m catching up on some old books I’ve never read. I’m two-thirds through this book, and I still have some ten hours left. Fun reading.

Preaching by Tim Keller — It’s part of my 2018 reading challenge. I’ll have a book review next week.

When by Daniel Pink — Timing is more important than most of us realize. Pink helps us structure our days and choose the best times and seasons. I’m looking forward to hearing him at Rotman this Friday.

God’s Wisdom for Navigating Life by Tim and Kathy Keller — Part of my morning devotional routine, it features a brief devotional each morning on Proverbs.

Love Big, Be Well — This book reminds me of something Zack Eswine or Eugene Peterson might write. It’s a series of letters from a fictional pastor to his church. It’s good as an occasional corrective. “Too much pastoral leadership literature re-circulates anxious efforts to make the church significant or influential or up-to-date, as if they need to harangue the church into becoming something. I think my job is to remind the church that she already is something. Can we settle down and be who we are, where we are? Can we take joy in the beauty already present in us and around us, right here, as things are?”
