New Download: Preaching Application
Application in preaching is harder than it seems. Haddon Robinson, author of Biblical Preaching, comments, “More heresy is preached in application than in Bible exegesis.”
Yet application isn’t optional. If we preach a text, but fail to apply it to life, we’ve failed in our assignment as preachers.
I’ve written a short primer on preaching application for a workshop I’m leading today. It’s a quick primer on the steps that we must take if we’re to apply the text in a way that’s both biblical and helpful. It includes:
- two steps to take in studying the text
- two steps to take in evaluating your congregation
- the three questions that your congregation will ask
- how to apply the text to different kinds of people in your congregation
- the importance of changing people on the spot while preaching
It also includes a checklist you can use to review your application before you preach.
